I have always thought the 1930 Grant Wood painting titled "American Gothic" was an intriguing image. The simpleness and iconic nature really sets it apart and tells a story. I decided to recreate a more modern version. I set out to capture unique images that will make you stop and think about how people are typecast into lifestyles by how they look and act. With each image, I set out to overexaggerate the stereotypes and, in a way, mock them being a bit over the top. My intent is not to make fun of or portray a certain race, class, or lifestyle in a bad light but to be so over the top that it makes the ridiculousness of it even more obvious.
